At first listen, Swearing At Motorists come off as self-indulgent and disillusioned. Then you realize they're truly remarkable.

Descended from Dayton, Ohio's long line of storytellers, SAM is a two-piece consisting of singer/guitarist Dave Doughman and drummer Don Thrasher, who served time in an early incarnation of Dayton's elder statesmen, Guided By Voices.

More Songs plays like a collection of short stories, with Doughman creating a master plot laced with ruminations on loss and abandonment. It is an intensely melancholy journey, beautifully laid out with soothing, melodic vocals that are interwoven with lush lyrics and pleasing harmonies a la Simon & Garfunkel and CSNY. Each song is more somber than the last.

More Songs is one of the best things to come out of Ohio since Paul Lynde.
