review taken from eye
Dayton, Ohio's Swearing at Motorists are somewhat out of time, though their backward gaze is focused more on the mid-'90s indie-rock golden age -- which makes sense, given that drummer Don Thrasher is one of 3,981 people who used to be in Guided by Voices. The pedigree shows -- anthemic guitar graininess and fragmental melodies abound on More Songs -- but SAM's ragged, barbed-wire pop actually has more in common with GbV drinking buddies the Grifters, with the riff-rock slop offset by moments of sobering urgency. There's nothing terribly ground-breaking about this, but singer Dave Doughman's beer-hoist sing-alongs are good for a few broken bottles.
