Say what you will about the intrigue and mystery that lie within songs containing indecipherable lyrics; they may or may not have any deeper meaning. Cast all those Rock & Roll riddles aside, because there’s nothing more refreshing than songs of universal troubles and the musical expression of everyday occurrences. Containing tales of getting high, driving too much, and being geographically disconnected from your girl, This Flag Signals Goodbye is a collection of genuine, personable, catchy and easy-to-relate-to gems. Swearing at Motorists is a duo that makes enough noise to sound numerically otherwise. There are no missing ingredients; songs usually start slow and sentimental before a soaring guitar enters to take the song to new decibel levels. With 14 songs clocking in at just over 30 minutes, S@M prove to be the kings of the two-minute masterpiece. Whether that’s due to a shortened pot-smoking attention span or the decency to neglect an annoyingly repetitious chorus, it’s refreshing and it really doesn’t matter, does it? This is Rock & Roll realism.
