enough drama and the way things are review

review taken from sponic

This first, of what will soon be two 7" Recordhead releases from the trio of Dave, Don, and Matt, is flat-out brilliant. The drugs start kicking in right at the beginning with a soundbite of chirping crickets and speeding cars.

Thus begins the mesmerizing "Barbwire Sweater." Then "Late Night Arithmetic (Timmy Runs Interference)" comes in to retire the side. The song tells you straight up, "Truth is, it's a lie I'm telling you," in an exhilarating chorus-rock break. Just when you think you're peaking, the acoustic "Duke of Anxiety" takes you further into space. Then, as the drugs start wearing off, you get into the sad "Nightingale in the Hangar" (a WYSO-radio studio track). To finish it off, an organ fades in, 25 or so Daves sing a verse, and the organ fades out (a.k.a. "No More James Dean").

S@M are often spare (think Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Red House Painters), but they always push the boundaries of folk, indie-rock, and blues.
