Swearing At Motorists are tearing up the stage so we tear up the stairs. S.A.M. are one of my favourite live bands. They somehow navigate this strange territory between good and evil. They get so close to suggesting a sound I might hate and then steer away at the last second. They are thrilling, like the urge to jump in front of a subway, or the pull of gravity beneath a daredevil’s leap. And, judging from the floor in front of the band, I’m not the only one who feels this way. We are all dancing. I lose my hat, Heather and I jump on chairs, Dave Doughman throws his guitar and a man in the crowd is bleeding. It all happened so fast. The bleeding man stumbles up the stairs, the show ends and crowds of people (including Joseph and Dave from S.A.M.) are tending to the injured. Thankfully, he appears to be fine. Our old friend TV Mike (a Secretly Canadian staffer who played a Three Gut house show last summer) helps me find my misplaced Winnipeg Jets hat and we leave the scene.
